# Aligned Actions
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/advanced/aligned-actions
Small steps that connect your intentions to your days.
### **Introducing Aligned Action**
Now, after every journal entry, your mentor will suggest **two small but meaningful actions** — based on your life goal, yearly goal, and recent reflections.
They’re *science-backed and time-tested steps* designed to help you create momentum and changes in your life so you can start aligning what might seem off.
You can click on the aligned actions card and even turn them into goals that can be tracked and journal with.
**Where to find it:** **Home page on both web and mobile**

# Life Goals
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/advanced/goals
Goals are just declarations of who you're becoming.
Growth follows a simple loop:\
**Action → Experience → Pain → Reflection → Insight → Action again.**
We reflect more deeply after we've taken action, which is why we've designed different ways for you to write down and journal about your goals.
> *"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why."*
>
> — Mark Twain
## **Life Goal**
Your life goal is your North Star. It gives meaning to your days and direction to your choices. When you know where you're going, every step becomes purposeful.
**How to Begin**
* **Choose your date:** When do you see this vision coming to life?
* **Name your mission:** What will you devote your life to?
* **Picture the outcome:** What specific change will you bring into reality?
* **Your gift to the world:** What tangible offering will you give to the world?
* **Map your path:** What detailed plans and know-how will get you there?
In Life Note, you can find examples of Life Goals to get inspired. You don't have to have one right now, but you can start with a draft and continue to find out about your why.
Once you've written down your life goal, read it aloud twice a day and check in on Life Note; it'll increase your focus and your likelihood of achieving it.
In 1969, Bruce was rejected by Hollywood and told that he could never be a lead actor.
Devastated, he hit one of the lowest points in his life.
Then he stumbled upon a book that changed everything — *Think and Grow Rich* by Napoleon Hill.
The lesson was simple yet profound:
“Write down your life’s purpose, and read it aloud twice a day.”
So Bruce sat down and wrote:
> “I, Bruce Lee, will become the highest-paid Oriental superstar in the United States. In return, I will give the most exciting performances. Starting 1970, I will achieve world fame, and by 1980 I will have \$10 million. I will live the way I please, in inner harmony and happiness.”
That single page reprogrammed his mind every day. It gave him direction, focus, and conviction — until the world caught up with his vision.
**That’s the power of having a Life Goal — to live with a purpose designed by you, not the world.**
## Yearly Goal
Every year, you can also write down the goals you have and choose a theme you'd love to focus on.
This helps you break down your larger goal into more actionable, tangible steps throughout the year.
## Practices and Quests
Once you've done the big-picture thinking, you create the actual work in Life Note. There are two kinds, and the difference is time.
Something you will **accomplish**. Specific and time-bound.
*"Read 12 books"* — not *"read more"*.
Something you will **do daily**. Simple, ongoing, no end date.
*"Meditate 10 min"* — not *"be more mindful"*.
A Quest has a finish line and milestones along the way. A Practice has a streak — you show up, and the days accumulate.
### Timeless Practices
You don't have to invent one from scratch. Life Note carries a curated library of practices and quests drawn from wisdom traditions — Vipassana with S. N. Goenka among them — each paired with the mentor who taught it, with a message from them, how to begin, and why it works.
> Wisdom traditions practiced for centuries. Adopted by millions. Ready for you.
***
## Creating a goal
Tap the **+** button in your Goals tab to create a new one.
A goal can be anything that matters to you:
* *Be more present with my kids*
* *Write my first novel*
* *Build a meditation practice*
* *Worry less about things I can't control*
* *Learn to paint*
Some goals are measurable. Some aren't. Both are valid. Life Note doesn't require metrics — it requires meaning.
You can have up to **10 active goals** at once. Not because more would break the app, but because focus matters. If everything is a priority, nothing is.
Not sure where to start? Life Note carries a library of curated practices — meditation, health habits and others — each paired with the mentor who taught it.
***
## Living with a goal
A goal in Life Note is not a checkbox. Open one and it grows as you do.
Tap **I showed up today** to log the day. Life Note tracks your show-ups, current streak and best streak.
Break a large goal into steps and tick them off as they land.
Link an entry to the goal. Your mentors then respond knowing what you are working toward.
A practice recommended by one of your mentors, with why it helps, how to begin, and the science behind it.
Every goal carries a status — **On Track**, **At Risk** or **Achieved** — so you can see where you stand without opening each one.
***
## When your mentor checks in
Go quiet on a goal and the mentor paired with it leaves you a note — an **unread mentor note** appears on the goal, and you can open the chat to read it or dismiss it.
You can also talk to a goal directly. That conversation knows what you set out to do, and everything you have written toward it since.
Mentor nudges are optional. Turn them off under notification settings if you would rather not be checked on.
***
## Letting a goal go
Not every goal deserves to be finished. Some were right for a version of you that has moved on.
Life Note gives you **Let go** rather than delete. The goal is archived as *gracefully released* — it stays in your history instead of vanishing.
> This isn't failure — pruning in service of what matters most is wisdom.
If you change your mind, **Recommit** brings it back to your active goals. Nothing is lost either way.
***
## The journey behind you
Completed goals don't disappear. They gather into a timeline you can scroll back through, with the entries you wrote along the way. Tap any reflection to reopen the journey it belonged to.
> Every finished goal is proof you can do hard things.
# Talk to Your Inner Wisdom
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/advanced/inner-wisdom
Once you journal more than 10+ entries, you can talk to your journal entries and find out more about your patterns, insights, and blindspots.
## Talk to Your Inner Wisdom
After you've journaled for a while, something interesting happens. Your entries start to contain patterns—recurring themes, hard-won insights, moments of clarity you may have forgotten.
Inner Wisdom is a feature that lets you ask questions and receive answers drawn from your own journaling history. Not generic advice. Your own words, your own discoveries, your own wisdom—surfaced when you need it.
**Where to find it on mobile:** Today's Tab → Scroll down to find "Talk to Your Inner Wisdom" section (unlocks after 10 journal entries)
**Where to find it on the web:** On the homepage → click the right arrow at the top of the card carousel → your inner portrait is at the 6th card.
***
## How it works
When you ask a question, Inner Wisdom searches through your journal history—not just for keywords, but for meaning. It finds entries where you've touched on similar themes, faced similar challenges, or discovered relevant insights.
Then it synthesizes a response that:
* References your actual past entries
* Weaves together threads from different moments
* Speaks in a tone that honors your own voice
You can tap on any referenced journal entry to revisit the original—seeing the full context of what you wrote.
***
## What to ask
Inner Wisdom works best with reflective questions:
* *"What have I learned about patience?"*
* *"How have I handled uncertainty in the past?"*
* *"What patterns do I see in my relationships?"*
* *"What advice would I give myself about work?"*
* *"What brings me peace?"*
You're essentially having a conversation with the accumulated you—the version of yourself that exists across all your entries.
# Reminders & Notifications
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/advanced/reminders
A journal that waits for you isn't enough. Sometimes you need a gentle nudge.
Journaling works best as a regular practice. But life gets busy. Days slip by. That's where reminders come in—not as nagging, but as gentle invitations to pause and reflect.
Life Note lets you set up to 10 custom reminders, each tailored to your schedule.
**Where to find it:** Settings → Notifications
***
## Setting up journal reminders
Go to Settings → Notifications
You'll see a form to create your reminder
Select the time of day that works best for you
Pick which days of the week this reminder should appear. You can choose specific days or every day.
Your reminder is now active
***
## Managing your reminders
Each reminder you create appears in your Notifications settings. From here you can:
* **Toggle on/off** — Temporarily disable a reminder without deleting it
* **Edit** — Change the time or days
* **Delete** — Remove the reminder entirely
You can have up to 10 reminders active at once. Maybe one for morning reflection and another for evening review. Maybe different reminders for weekdays versus weekends.
***
## Weekly reflection reminder
Beyond your custom journal reminders, Life Note offers a separate **Weekly Reflection Reminder**. When enabled, you'll receive a notification to reflect on your week's journaling.
This pairs naturally with the Weekly Letter feature—a chance to see patterns across your entries and receive synthesized insights.
Toggle this on or off in the "Other Notifications" section of your Notifications settings.
***
## Notification permissions
For reminders to work, Life Note needs permission to send you notifications.
If you haven't granted permission yet, you'll see a prompt when you first visit the Notifications settings or try to create a reminder. Tap "Open Settings" to enable notifications for Life Note in your device settings.
On iOS, you'll need to allow notifications in your device Settings. On Android, you may be prompted directly within the app.
## Finding the right rhythm
There's no universal "best time" to journal. Some people find mornings work well—capturing thoughts before the day takes over. Others prefer evenings—processing what happened and letting go before sleep.
Experiment. Start with one reminder at a time that feels natural. Add more only if it helps, not to feel pressured.
The goal isn't to journal every time a reminder appears. It's to keep the invitation open—so that when you're ready to write, you remember that you can.
# Tune your mentors
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/advanced/tune-your-mentors
Two dials shape every reply you get — what your mentors know about you, and the tone they take.
Two things decide how a mentor answers you. **Who they think you are**, and **the tone you asked for.** Both are yours to set, and both take about a minute.
## About You
Your mentors respond to what you write in an entry — but they respond better when they know the shape of your life around it.
**About You** is a short note you write once, in **Settings → About You**. Share anything you'd want a wise mentor to know: your life situation, what you're going through, what matters to you.
> e.g. "I'm a 30-year-old teacher going through a career change..."
It costs you two sentences and changes every reply you get afterward. A mentor who knows you are three months into caring for a parent reads "I'm exhausted" very differently from one who doesn't.
**If you have an accessibility need, write it here.** Life Note treats it as a hard constraint, not a preference — a mentor who knows you are blind will stop suggesting that you look at something.
Update it when your life turns. It is a living note, not a form you filled in at signup.
## Guidance Modes — the same wisdom, three tones
Your mentors can speak in different ways depending on what you need. The wisdom doesn't change—but how it's delivered does.
Life Note offers three Guidance Modes. Each one shapes how your mentors respond to your journal entries and conversations.
**Where to find it:** Settings → Guidance Mode
***
## The three modes
**Authentic wisdom, mentor's natural voice**
This is the default. Your mentors speak as themselves—with their characteristic style, metaphors, and emphasis. Marcus Aurelius sounds like Marcus Aurelius. Rumi sounds like Rumi.
**Warm encouragement, gentle compassion**
When you're hurting, sometimes you need tenderness first. Healer mode softens the delivery—more reassurance, more patience, more recognition that you're doing the best you can.
**Direct challenge, accountable truth**
When you need a push or need to be held accountable. Warrior mode offers less hand-holding and more directness. The kind of truth that might sting—but might be exactly what you need to hear.
***
## When to use each mode
There's no "right" mode. Different moments call for different approaches.
**Seeker** works well for:
* Everyday journaling
* Exploring ideas without a specific emotional need
* When you want the authentic voice of your mentor
**Healer** works well for:
* Processing grief or loss
* Moments of self-doubt
* When you're exhausted and need kindness first
* Recovery from failure
**Warrior** works well for:
* When you're stuck in avoidance
* Making difficult decisions you've been postponing
* Breaking patterns you know aren't serving you
* When comfort has become a trap
***
## Switching modes
Tap the profile icon, then Settings
You'll see all three options with descriptions
Your choice is saved immediately
Your Guidance Mode affects all mentor responses going forward. Previous conversations remain unchanged.
***
## A note on Warrior mode
Warrior mode isn't meant to be harsh for its own sake. It's designed for moments when you've asked for accountability—when you need someone to cut through your excuses and help you face what you're avoiding.
If you find yourself consistently resisting Warrior mode, that resistance might be worth examining. Or it might mean you need more Healer time first.
You know yourself best. The mode is just a tool.
***
## The mentor still matters
Guidance Mode shapes the tone, but your mentor's fundamental perspective doesn't change. A Stoic in Healer mode is still a Stoic. A mystic in Warrior mode is still a mystic.
Think of it like volume or temperature—an adjustment to how the message arrives, not a replacement of the message itself.
# Yearly Reflection
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/advanced/yearly-reflection
A year is long enough to forget who you were at the start.
As every year approaches its end, comes the natural season of reflection.
If you write **15+ journal entries during the year**, Life Note will then craft **your story to help you reflect.**
You can also chat with all your yearly entries—and reflect on questions such as:
* **What should I celebrate in 2026?**
* **What challenges helped me grow?**
* **What should I let go of as I enter 2026?**
**Where to find it:** Life/Journal → **"Year in Review"** card

# Your Inner Weather
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/advanced/your-inner-weather
Emotions aren't problems. They're weather.
## Weather passes
We talk about emotions as if they were destinations. "I'm anxious." "I'm happy." As if this is who we are now.
But emotions are more like the weather. They arrive. They shift. They pass. You're not *an anxious person*—you're a person experiencing anxiety right now. Tomorrow, the sky might be different.
Your Inner Weather helps you see this.
**Where to find it on mobile:** Today's Tab → Scroll down to find "Your Inner Weather" section (unlocks after 3 journal entries)
**Where to find it on web:** On the homepage → click the right arrow at the top of the card carousel (on the right side of the screen) → your inner portrait is on the 3rd and 4th cards.
***
## Patterns over time
In your inner weather page, you can see
* **The top feelings** you've been having in the past
* **Trends**: if certain emotions have been more present and emerging
* **Emotion map:** based on emotion science, you can see the 8 categories that represent the fundamental ways humans experience feeling, and understand the message behind it.
***
## Awareness, not analysis
You don't need to psychoanalyze your weather. You don't need to figure out *why* you feel what you feel (though you can, if that's useful).
Sometimes, just noticing is enough. *Oh, it's been cloudy for a while.* *Interesting—the sun came out after I journaled about that.* *I didn't realize how stormy things were until I saw it here.*
Awareness itself is a transformation. Not the aggressive kind. The gentle kind—the kind that lets things shift naturally because you're no longer resisting them.
Your Inner Weather is always changing. Just like you.
# Your Inner World
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/advanced/your-inner-world
Walk a valley where your journal is laid out as light — memories, saved wisdom, and portraits along a path through your own years.
Everything else in Life Note shows you your life as a list. This shows it as a place.
Your entries become glowing orbs strung along a path through a valley. Walk it, and you are walking your own timeline — the further you go, the further back or forward you travel. The weather changes as you move, because it is made from how you actually felt during the stretch you are standing in.
Your Inner World opens once you have **15 entries**, and runs on desktop only — it needs a bigger screen and a real keyboard to walk around in.
## Walking it
**W A S D** to walk, or simply click anywhere on the ground. Hold **Shift** to run.
**Space** to jump. Hold it to lift off and fly, then glide back down.
Walk up to an orb and press **E** to open that day and read it.
Press **F** and the spirit strolls the path on its own while you watch your life go by.
## What the light means
* **Glowing orbs** are your memories. Their colour is the emotion they carry — joy, calm, sadness, anger, fear, love, and the rest each have their own.
* **Golden lights** off the path are pieces of wisdom you saved to your collection.
* **Glowing frames** are your Inner Portraits, standing in the year they were made.
The best things are not on the path. Wander sideways.
## Moving through years
Use the year list on the right to jump, or the **\[** and **]** keys to step back and forward a year at a time.
## The weather is yours
The sky is not decoration. It reads the dominant emotion of the memories around you and turns radiant, clear, misty, rainy, or stormy to match. Walk through a hard winter and you will feel it change.
Press **?** at any time inside the valley to bring the controls back up.
# Connect Life Note to your AI
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/developers/lifenote-cli
Bring your private journal into the AI you already use — Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor — as a read-only memory layer.
Your journal is where you think most honestly. Connect it to the AI you already use — in a chat app or in your terminal — so it can draw on your real reflections, wisdom, and goals. Read-only, private, and only when you ask.
## Two ways to connect
Add Life Note to **Claude** or **ChatGPT** and sign in once. Best for most people.
The `lifenote` command-line tool, for Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. Best for developers.
## Connect in Claude or ChatGPT
No install needed — you just add a connector once.
Open **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector**, paste the URL below, then **Connect** and sign in with your Life Note account.
Open **Settings → Connectors** and add a custom connector with the same URL, then sign in.
Life Note connector URL:
```
https://mcp.mylifenote.ai/mcp
```
Adding a custom connector may require a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan. It also works with Gemini Enterprise and other MCP-compatible assistants.
## What to ask — start here
Once connected, just talk normally. Not sure where to begin? Match it to how you're feeling:
*"Look back through my journal and remind me of my small wins and the moments I actually grew — evidence I'm further along than I feel."*
*"I'm worked up about this. What have I written before about this person or situation — and what usually helps me settle?"*
*"Across my recent entries, what are my top recurring patterns — and the triggers behind them?"*
*"What blind spot keeps showing up in my writing — and what have my mentors said that speaks to it?"*
*"I'm torn. Based on what I've written and my Life Goal, what do I actually value here?"*
*"What am I working on right now, and where am I drifting from this year's focus?"*
**Read-only and private.** Your AI can *read* your journal, wisdom, practices, and goals. It **cannot** write to your journal, change your settings, or access anyone else's data. Your sign-in token is stored securely — never in plain text — and you can disconnect any time from Settings.
***
## For developers — the CLI
Prefer the terminal, or work in a coding agent? Install the `lifenote` CLI for the same journal, at the command line.
Requires Python 3.10+. We recommend [pipx](https://pipx.pypa.io/):
```bash theme={null}
pipx install lifenote
lifenote auth login
```
Claude Code — run this. Cursor and Codex use the same pattern; for Claude Desktop, add it to your MCP config.
```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add lifenote -- lifenote mcp
```
Install the bundled skill so your agent knows when to reach for your journal — and when not to:
```bash theme={null}
lifenote skills install
```
Search your journal and pipe the results into any agent:
```bash theme={null}
lifenote today
lifenote search "anxiety about launch"
lifenote search "burnout" --json | claude "summarize the patterns"
```
### What your agent can do
14 read-only tools span your journal, saved wisdom, mentor conversations, practices & quests, and life direction — so every scenario above works from the terminal too. Power-user asks:
> *"Cross-reference my journal and my saved wisdom on burnout — where do they agree, where do they diverge?"*
>
> *"Pull my last month of entries and draft a weekly-review summary I can paste into my journal."*
>
> *"Given my Life Goal and this year's focus, what have I actually made progress on — with evidence from my entries?"*

# Earn free months
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/earn-free-months
Share Life Note with people who would actually use it, and your own subscription is on us.
Life Note spreads the way a good book does — one person telling another it helped. If you have been that person for someone, we would rather pay you than an advertiser.
## What you get
**One month free.**
**A full year free.**
## How it works
Go to **Settings** and copy **Your referral link**. It is yours permanently — the same link every time.
They sign up through your link and start journaling.
Your referral count updates in Settings as friends join, and your free time is applied once you reach a tier.
Friends have to actually sign up and use Life Note for a referral to count. This is not a numbers game, and it is not meant to be — five people who genuinely journal is worth more to us than five hundred sign-ups who never return.
## Who to send it to
The people it lands with are usually the ones already circling the idea — someone who keeps saying they should write things down, someone in the middle of a hard year, someone who reads. It is a poor fit for a mass send, and a very good fit for one honest message to one person.
# Daily Practice & Rituals
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/essentials/daily-practice-and-rituals
Give your journaling a shape — a recurring prompt each day, or a guided ritual that walks you through one question at a time.
A blank page every day asks a lot of you. Sometimes it helps to arrive somewhere that already knows what it is for.
Life Note gives you two kinds of structure. **Daily Practice** is a prompt waiting for you each day. A **ritual** is a short guided session that asks one question at a time — and changes how your mentor answers.
## Rituals
A ritual walks you through a few questions in sequence rather than handing you an empty box. What makes them different is the ending: each ritual tells your mentor *how* to respond.
Say everything you're carrying before the day decides for you. Your mentor sorts it into what matters.
Lay a knot out piece by piece, until you can see which parts are actually yours to carry.
When something is hard to say, say it as it is. Your mentor stays with you — and gives no advice at all.
That last one matters more than it looks. **Sitting With This** is the only place in Life Note where a mentor deliberately withholds guidance. Some things don't need solving.
Open **Daily Practice** on your home screen and choose a ritual.
Take the questions you want and skip the ones you don't. Your progress is saved as you go, on every device.
Finish, and your mentor replies in the style that ritual calls for.
Rituals are always answered by a mentor, even if you normally journal alone.
## Make your own
You can build a ritual from scratch: name it, choose its cover, write your own sequence of questions, and pick how your mentor should respond — **Clear & Sort**, **Ground & Reframe**, **Just Listen**, **Reflect**, or a response style you describe yourself.
This is the most underused feature in Life Note. A ritual you wrote for your own recurring situation — a Sunday review, a post-argument cooldown, a pre-flight ritual — works better than any of ours, because it asks your questions.
## Daily Practice
Daily Practice is lighter: a recurring prompt that appears on your home screen each day. Gratitude, morning intention, evening reflection, dream journalling and shadow work are built in, and you can edit the prompts, add your own, or set which one comes up by default.
Use the **⋯** on any Daily Practice card to manage its prompts, change the default, or reset it back to ours.
## Practices & Quests
Beyond daily prompts, Life Note carries a library of longer practices — Vipassana with S. N. Goenka, and twenty-odd others — each paired with the mentor who taught it. These run over weeks rather than days. You'll find them alongside your goals.
# Deep Chat
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/essentials/deep-chat
Go deeper on things that touch and move you.
## The conversation continues
A mentor's first response is just the beginning.
You can take the dialogue further—through questioning, challenging, exploring. Deep Chat lets you continue the conversation with your mentor. Ask follow-up questions. Push back on their perspective. Go deeper into ideas that resonate.
This is how the great thinkers learned from each other. Now it's how you learn from them.
**Where to find it:**
* After submitting a journal entry, → Tap **"Continue Discussion"** on the mentor's response
* From the Mentor tab → Tap any mentor and then click "Begin Conversation."
***
## Managing conversations
If you'd like a more focused conversation, you can archive the conversation and start fresh with a topic you'd like to explore with the mentor. Just click on the 3 dots button on the top right, then you'll have the options of
1. **Archiving the conversation:** once a conversation is archived, you'll still be able to see it; it just does not appear in the current conversation context.
2. **Deleting the conversation:** Once deleted, you won't be able to see the conversation again.
3. **View archive:** see all the past archived conversations.
# Journaling with Great Minds
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/essentials/journaling-with-great-minds
Write your first entry and meet your mentors.
## Why journaling?
Research shows that journaling can improve mental health, increase goal achievement, reduce anxiety, and boost memory retention.
Writing makes thoughts tangible, engages the prefrontal cortex, and reduces amygdala reactivity.
Even just 15 minutes per session, 3–4 times a week, can produce lasting benefits.
But writing on a blank page without feedback is hard to sustain.
That’s why Life Note reimagines journaling—not as solitary writing, but as a conversation across time and space.
Read more benefits of journaling [here](https://blog.mylifenote.ai/benefits-of-journaling/).
American writer Anaïs Nin once said: “We write to taste life twice: once in the moment, and once in retrospect.” Born in 1903, she kept journals for 60 years, and those diaries later became her best-known published works. Writing candidly in a first-person female voice, she laid bare a wide range of inner experiences and has since been regarded as a pioneer of feminist writing.
**Where to find it:**
Mobile: Open Life Note → Tap the **journal bar** at the bottom in the Today or Life tab.
Web: On the sidebar → Tap the button next to **"Journal"** and start journaling.
***
## Writing your first entry
Start with what's on your mind. A frustration. A question. A moment that stuck with you. A dream you're chasing.
There's no wrong way to begin. Just dump everything that's on your mind. Don't worry about grammar. Don't worry about being profound. Just write.
Research shows that around **150 words and 3 times a week** tends to be the sweet spot—enough depth for meaningful reflection, but not so much that it becomes a chore.
Discover Campbell Walker’s [VOMIT journaling method](https://blog.mylifenote.ai/the-vomit-system-a-proven-journaling-framework-by-campbell-walker/) — a practical 5-step framework (Vent, Obligations, Mindset, Ideation, Trajectory) to declutter your mind, boost creativity, and stay on track.
***
## Don't know what to journal?
Some days, the page stays blank. That's okay.
**Two ways to get inspired**
1. Tap **"Get Inspired"** in the journal writing screen, and from there, you can find a **curated library** of prompts to journal with. You can also **collect journaling inspiration** by highlighting the questions mentors asked you earlier for future journaling sessions.
2. Turn on notifications, and you'll receive **"A Thought to Ponder Today"** daily. Your main mentor will ask you a question designed to unlock reflection without forcing it.
In the beginner's mind, there are many possibilities, but in the expert's, there are few.

## Other ways in
Typing is one way in. It is not always the easiest — some days the thought arrives faster than you can type it, some days a photograph says it better, and some days it is already written, on paper.
### Speak it
Tap **Voice** in the composer and talk. Life Note transcribes what you said straight into your entry, where you can edit it like anything else. Pause and resume as much as you like; each recording can run up to five minutes.
It is the fastest way to journal when you are walking, driving, or simply too tired to type — and it tends to be more honest, because you don't get to edit yourself mid-sentence.
Your audio is sent for transcription and then deleted. Only the transcript is kept, and it is yours alone.
### Add a photo
Tap **Add Photo** to attach an image to an entry — the view from a trip, a person you wrote about, a page you want to remember. Photos live inside the entry itself and appear in your timeline alongside the words.
### Scan a paper page
If you keep a paper journal, you don't have to retype it. In the mobile app, use **Scan Journal** to photograph a page with your camera or pick one from your library. Life Note extracts the handwriting into text you can edit and save as a normal entry.
Flat page, good light, no shadow across the writing. That is most of the battle with handwriting recognition.
| | Free | Subscription |
| ---------------- | ---------------------- | --------------- |
| Voice journaling | 10 recordings per week | 200 per month |
| Photo resolution | Standard | Full resolution |
| Scan Journal | Weekly limit | Higher limit |
However it lands, it becomes an ordinary journal entry. Your mentors respond to a spoken entry exactly as they would to a written one.

## The Wisdom Council
After you are done writing, just hit save. Life Note chooses your **Wisdom Council** for you.
The Wisdom Council reads your entry and matches you with the **most qualified mentors** whose perspectives are most relevant to what you've written. You will also see the qualifications and the reasons why the mentors are recommended to you.
You can also **choose your own** mentors. By going to the mentors tab and following the mind, the mentors will appear in your dropdown in the future.
Once you are ready, just tap **save**.
And if you want to go deeper after reading the responses? Then you can take the conversation further by chatting with the mentors.
***
## Listen instead of reading
Every mentor response can be heard aloud. Tap the **play** button on a response and your mentor reads it to you.
A small player appears and stays with you — skip back fifteen seconds, forward fifteen, pause, or stop. It keeps playing as you move around the app, so you can listen to a long reply while you scroll your timeline or start writing the next entry.
It works on mentor responses and inside Deep Chat.
Listening is available in English, 繁體中文, 简体中文, 日本語, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, हिन्दी and Українська.
Some replies land differently when they are spoken rather than read — especially the ones you would otherwise skim. Try it on a response you have been avoiding.
# Meet Your Mentors

Learn more about the mentors in Life Note
## Choose who you learn from
Life Note offers guidance from over 1,000 mentors—philosophers, scientists, artists, spiritual teachers, entrepreneurs, and more. Each one brings a distinct worldview, shaped by real lives and real writings.
Our goal? To deliver the most realistic simulated conversation, we aim to deeply understand the mentor's worldview, values, and styles, then extrapolate from the conversation you are having.
**Where to find mentors:** Mentor tab → Browse mentors
***
## The mentor library
When you browse mentors, you'll find them organized by **craft, era, and what they are best for**. You can click on the filter button and easily find the ones you are interested in. You can also click on each individual mentor and get to know them more.
Each mentor card shows:
* Their name and portrait
* Their category (what they're known for)
* An overview
* Their strength and weakness
Tap any mentor to see their full profile.
***
## Understanding a mentor's voice
Every mentor profile includes:
A brief biography—who they were, what they believed, how they lived.
What kinds of questions or struggles is this mentor particularly suited for? Some excel at existential questions. Others make practical decisions. Others at creative blocks.
An honest note about this mentor's limitations. Every great mind has blind spots. Life Note doesn't hide them—it names them, so you can choose wisely.
A representative line from their actual work—a taste of how they think and speak.
***
## Following mentors
When you follow a mentor, they become part of your personal circle of guides:
* They appear in your journal writing page
* You can choose the mentor you are following to respond to your journal
* Their wisdom becomes available for reference
To follow or unfollow a mentor, tap the heart icon on their profile.
Don't just follow mentors who comfort you. Some of the most valuable guidance comes from voices that challenge your assumptions.
***
## Setting your main mentor
Your **Main Mentor** is the default voice that responds to your **weekly reflection and asks you a daily question** for you to ponder. This is the mind you'll hear from most often.
Tap the profile icon, then Settings
Choose from your followed mentors
Your selection is saved automatically
You can change your Main Mentor at any time. Different seasons of life may call for different guides.
***
## Who replies by default
Your Main Mentor is one voice. **Default Replying Mentor** decides who answers every new entry — so you set it once instead of choosing each time you write.
Life Note picks the best-fit mentors for each entry. Different writing brings different voices.
Your main mentor every time, plus two chosen for what you wrote.
No replies at all. Some entries are not for anyone else.
Name the exact line-up you want to hear from.
### Draw the council from your own mentors
The dotted row in the middle is the part worth knowing about. **Recommended mentors come from** lets you switch the council between **All mentors** and **My mentors** — the ones you follow.
Switch it to *My mentors* and every recommendation is drawn only from people you chose. The council still varies with what you write; it simply never reaches outside your own library to do it.
Follow generously first, then switch the source. A council drawn from five mentors will feel narrow — the setting is only as good as the library behind it.
***
## Blocking mentors
If a mentor's voice doesn't resonate—or actively bothers you—you can block them entirely.
Blocked mentors won't appear in your conversations, suggestions, or the Inspiration tab.
To block a mentor on mobile:
1. Go to Settings → Blocked Mentors
2. Tap "Select Mentors to Block"
3. Search or browse, then tap "Block" next to any mentor
To block a mentor on the web:
1. Go to the Mentor tab
2. Click on the top right button, then just tap block.
You can unblock them later from the same settings screen.
***
## Why so many voices?
Because wisdom isn't monolithic.
What helps one person may not help another. What you need at 25 may not be what you need at 45. What serves you in grief may not serve you in ambition.
Life Note gives you access to humanity's accumulated wisdom—not as a single prescription, but as a chorus of perspectives you can choose from.
Pick the voices that challenge you, the ones that comfort you, and the ones that see you clearly.
# Memory Orb
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/essentials/memory-orb
Memories are created as you journal with Life Note.
As you journal, Life Note captures key moments from your entries and organizes them into different types—whether it's a memory of gratitude, a decision, a connection, a challenge, or a breakthrough (a total of 10+ types) —mentors can now understand your life in a more humane way.
Also, the memories are awaiting you as **Memory Orbs** in a gallery, so you can revisit them anytime. Each orb carries the moment and the 1–2 emotions you felt, making reflection feel lighter and more delightful than rereading long entries.
The memory orb design is inspired by the movie *Inside Out 2.* The idea of revisiting my memories through an orb has stuck with me since I first watched the movie, and I'm really excited to bring it into Life Note as this brings us closer to our vision: an inner universe shaped by your journaling, where self-awareness and growth feel more immersive, fun, and useful.
**Where to find it on mobile:** Today's Tab → **"Your Memories"** section (unlocks after 15 journal entries)
**Where to find it on the web:** On the homepage → click the right arrow at the top of the card carousel (on the right side of the screen) → your inner portrait is at the last position.

# Weekly Letter & Inner Portrait
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/essentials/weekly-letter-inner-portrait
Journal 3x a week, then receive a reflection letter from your mentor, and an art piece that mirrors your soul.
## A week is worth reflecting on
Days blur together. Sunday arrives, and you've already forgotten Tuesday's breakthrough or Wednesday's struggle.
The Weekly Letter and Inner Portrait exist to pause time—to help you see your week as a whole, not just a blur of moments.
**Where to find it on:** Life/Journal Tab → **"Weekly Reflection"** will show up in the timeline
You'll receive a Weekly Letter and Inner Portrait after writing **3 or more journal entries** in a week. This ensures enough depth for meaningful reflection.
***
## The Weekly Letter
Every week, as long as you've **written 3 journal entries**, your main mentor will then write a letter—personal, thoughtful, addressed specifically to you and your week.
Your mentor reads everything you journal during the week and the previous week. They notice threads you might have missed. They reflect on your growth, your recurring themes, and the challenges you're wrestling with.
You can find the letter in the **Life/Journal Tab**.\
\
You can also turn on the notification so you'll be notified when the letter arrives.
***
## The Reflection tab
Next to your Weekly Letter, you'll find the **"Reflection"** tab. Here, your week is organized into clear categories:
* **Where You Shined** — moments of growth, small victories, strengths you demonstrated
* **Key Insights** — patterns and realizations that emerged from your entries
* **Challenges** — struggles you're working through, with compassionate acknowledgment
***
## Inner Portrait
Where to find it on mobile: In the Life tab → Top left corner (a gallery icon) → click to see your gallery of inner portrait
Where to find it on the web: On the homepage → click the right arrow at the top of the card carousel → your inner portrait is at the third position.
We only get 52 weeks each year. At Life Note, we ask ourselves — what if every one of them were a work of art?
Words can only capture so much, and that's why we created the Inner Portrait.
Your **Inner Portrait** transforms your week's emotional journey into a visual art. It's like visiting the museum of your inner world.
The art isn't generated randomly. It's derived from *your* words, *your* emotions, *your* specific week. No two Inner Portraits are alike—just as no two weeks are alike.
You can save your Inner Portrait to your photos or share it.

# Wisdom Collection
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/essentials/wisdom-collection
Highlight and curate your wisdom library
## Collecting wisdom
When a mentor’s words touch something deep, you can now **save them in your wisdom collection** for your future reflection.
Your Wisdom Collection is where these moments live—saved, searchable, and shareable. Over time, it becomes a curated library of the ideas that shaped your thinking.
**Where to find it:**
* **To save:** In any mentor response, select text → Tap **"Save to Wisdom"**
* **To browse:** Home → **"Wisdom Collection"** section → **"See All"**
When a mentor's words resonate:
1. **Long-press** (on mobile) or **click and drag** (on desktop) to select the text
2. A menu appears—tap **"Highlight"**
3. The passage is added to your collection and will appear highlighted when you revisit the mentor responses
You can save from journal responses, Deep Chat conversations, or Weekly Letters.
***
## Wisdom Cards
You can transform your collected wisdom into a wisdom card and share it with people
To create a Wisdom Card:
1. Open your Wisdom Collection
2. Tap any saved insight
3. Select **"Create Card"**
4. Choose a design style
5. Save to photos or share directly
These aren't generic quote images. They're *your* insights, from *your* conversations, rendered beautifully.
## Browsing your collection
Your Wisdom Collection grows with you.
Open it to see every insight you've saved, organized, and accessible. You can:
* **Search** for specific words or themes
* **Filter by mentor**—see all wisdom from Marcus Aurelius, or only Maya Angelou's insights
* **Scroll through time**—watch how the ideas that move you have evolved
Some users browse their collection in the morning, like a daily devotional. Others revisit it when facing familiar challenges. There's no right way to use it.
# Bring your history in
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/start-here/bring-your-history-in
Import years of journaling from ChatGPT, Claude, Kin, Day One and others — and pick up where you left off.
If you have been writing somewhere else, bring it with you. Your mentors read your past the same way they read your present, so an imported history is not an archive sitting in a corner — it is context they use from your very next entry.
## What you can bring
ChatGPT, Claude, Kin AI — the export files those apps give you.
Day One, Journey, Reflectly, and `.zip` archives from most others.
`.json`, `.txt`, `.md` — anything you have kept as text.
No export file? Paste the text straight in.
## How it works
Go to **Settings → Data Management → Import your journal**.
Drag the export in, click to browse, or switch to the **Paste text** tab and paste directly.
Life Note reads the file and shows you a count of journal entries and memories before anything moves. Nothing is written to your journal until you say so.
Confirm, and your entries settle into your timeline on the dates they were originally written.
Your mentors take a little while to absorb a large history. If the first entry after an import feels like it hasn't caught up yet, give it a few minutes.
## If the file is unusual
Exports vary wildly, and some are genuinely strange. When Life Note cannot read yours, it will offer to leave it with us — a real person formats it by hand and emails you when it's ready, usually within a day or two. You don't have to reformat anything yourself.
## Changed your mind
An import can be undone. Go back to **Settings → Data Management**, choose **Undo import**, and every entry from that batch is removed. Your original entries are untouched.
**Your file is not kept.** It is stored encrypted only until the import finishes, then discarded. The entries themselves are encrypted at rest like everything else you write — see [Privacy and security](/en/start-here/privacy-and-security).
# Privacy and security
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/start-here/privacy-and-security
How Life Note protects your journal — encryption, who can read your entries, and how to export or delete everything.
Your journal holds things you may never have said out loud. Here is exactly how Life Note handles it, in plain language.
## The short version
Every entry is encrypted with AES-GCM (256-bit) before it is written to our servers. In storage it is ciphertext, not readable text.
Your entry is locked, the key to it is locked and held in hardware we cannot read, and you can lock the app itself.
Your writing is never sold, never read by our staff, and never used to train an AI model.
Export everything in a few clicks, or ask us to delete it all.
## Three locks, not one
Most apps encrypt your data and stop there — which only moves the problem, because the key has to live somewhere. Life Note puts a lock on the entry, a lock on the key that opens it, and a lock on the app itself.
When you write an entry, it is encrypted with AES-GCM and a 256-bit key before it is written to our servers — the same standard used by banks and governments. Every entry gets its own fresh initialization vector, and the cipher detects tampering. What sits in our database is ciphertext, and your key belongs to your account alone: one account's key cannot open another account's entries.
Your key is never stored in readable form. It sits in our database only as ciphertext, wrapped inside its own encryption. The key that unwraps it is held in AWS Key Management Service, inside hardware security modules — not in our database, not in our code, not on our servers. It **cannot be extracted from that hardware, by an attacker or by us.** We can ask the hardware to perform an unwrap; we can never read the key itself. Every request is recorded in an independent audit trail.
The first two locks are ours to maintain, and they run whether you think about them or not. This one is yours. Turn on a PIN, your fingerprint, or your face, and Life Note will not open at all without it — protecting your journal from whoever picks up your phone, not just from anyone attacking our servers. [Turn it on →](#lock-the-app-itself)
## What that means if we were breached
The realistic version of "hacked" is someone walking away with a copy of the database — a stolen backup, a leaked dump, a compromised disk. It is how journals actually leak.
If that happened, what they would hold is your encrypted entries and your encrypted key. **The database does not contain the key that opens either one.** There is no password to crack inside it and no key file to find. The thing that would unlock it sits in separate infrastructure, behind separate credentials, in hardware that will not hand the key over to anyone.
No system is unbreakable, and we are not going to tell you otherwise. What this design does is make the most likely failure — a copied database — a non-event, and make every legitimate use of your key visible in an audit trail afterward.
## Also in place
* **In transit.** Everything travels over HTTPS.
* **Short-lived credentials.** Systems that request a key use scoped, short-lived credentials rather than long-lived static secrets.
* **Encrypted backups.** Backups carry the same encryption as the live database — they are ciphertext too.
## When your entries are decrypted
Your entries are decrypted only to serve you: when you open your own journal, and when an AI mentor reads an entry in order to write a reflection for you. Providing that reflection requires that our systems can decrypt your entry at that moment.
What does not happen:
* Your entries are **not read by our staff**.
* They are **not sold**, and not handed to a third party.
* They are **never used to train an AI model** — not ours, not anyone else's.
Life Note is not end-to-end encrypted in the strict sense, because an AI mentor has to read your entry to respond to it. We would rather say that plainly than use a term that sounds stronger than what we do.
## Lock the app itself
Encryption protects your journal on our servers. A lock protects it from whoever picks up your phone or sits at your desk.
Go to **Settings → Privacy** and turn on **Privacy Lock**. Set a PIN, and Life Note asks for it before it opens — and again after a period of inactivity. You can also hit **Lock now** at any time.
Go to **Settings** and turn on biometric unlock. Life Note then requires your fingerprint or your face before it opens.
## Export your data
Go to **Settings → Data Management → Export**. You can choose:
* **Format** — CSV, JSON, Markdown, or a ZIP archive
* **Date range** — everything, or a slice of it
* **What to include** — your entries alone, or your entries plus mentor responses and journal analysis
The export is yours to keep, back up, or move somewhere else.
## Connect an AI agent
You can connect Life Note to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other apps that speak the Model Context Protocol — see [Connect Life Note to your AI](/en/developers/lifenote-cli) for how to set it up. When you do:
* The connection is **read-only**. An agent can read your entries, mentor responses, past conversations, saved Wisdom, Practices, and Goals. It cannot write, modify, or delete anything.
* Every connection needs **your explicit approval** in your browser, and you see exactly which permissions you are granting before you approve.
* Each agent gets its **own scoped token**. We email you every time a new agent is connected, so you have a permanent record.
* You can **revoke any agent — or all of them — at any time** at [mylifenote.ai/settings/agents](https://mylifenote.ai/settings/agents). Revocation takes effect within seconds. The same page shows the last 30 days of agent activity.
Once an agent receives your data, that agent's own AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, and so on) processes it under **their** privacy policy, not ours. We do not control what they do with it. Review the policy of whichever agent you connect.
## Delete your account
You can do this yourself, in the app.
Go to **Settings → Data Management** and click **Delete Account**, then confirm.
Go to **Settings → Account Management** and tap **Delete Account**, then confirm.
Your account is then scheduled for deletion within 7 days, and you get a confirmation email once it is done. We permanently delete your account information, journal entries and responses, usage history and preferences, and everything else you created. Some traces persist briefly afterward: up to 30 days for legal compliance, up to 90 days in encrypted backups, and anonymized aggregate analytics no longer tied to you.
Deletion cannot be undone, and we cannot recover your entries afterward. If you only want a copy of your writing, export it first.
If you cannot get into your account, email [daniel@mylifenote.ai](mailto:daniel@mylifenote.ai) with the subject line **Account Deletion Request** and we will handle it for you.
## The full details
The complete policy, including your rights and children's privacy.
A longer write-up on AES-GCM and hardware-protected keys.

# Welcome to Life Note
Source: https://guide.mylifenote.ai/en/start-here/welcome-to-life-note
The first AI designed for human wisdom. Built for seekers on a self-actualizing journey.
## Hey, fellow seeker.
A blank page can be intimidating. Or liberating. It depends on who's listening.
Life, ultimately, is a single-player game. But here's the trick: it only becomes playful when you realize it's *your* game.
It's the most fulfilling and the loneliest journey there is.
That's why Life Note was born — a wise companion and a space where your mind meets the great minds who once stood where you stand, on a journey of becoming.
>
> "Everything I make is a diary entry, and you can't tell me my diary wasn't good enough."
>
> —Rick Rubin
>
## The philosophy behind
**Own your story, own your life.** The brain doesn't remember your life — it narrates it. Take control of the narrative, and you take control of your life.
**Learn from the roots.** Every insight you'll ever have, someone has lived. Wisdom isn't invented in isolation — it's transmitted across centuries, mind to mind, like a slow and sacred kind of fire.
> "The only thing new in the world is the history you do not know".
>
> — Harry S. Truman
**Growth = pain + reflection.** Stress without meaning breaks you down. Stress metabolized through reflection builds something new. We grow not by enduring, but by understanding what we endured.
**We all have a calling.** Finding your vocation can feel distant — something that happens to other people. But many of the great minds found their calling late in life. The point isn't knowing. The point is starting.
> Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.
>
> — Carl Jung
**Creativity is perspective.** One mind sees a wall. Another sees a door. Creativity isn't an invention — it's the angle of sight, and it's our last frontier in the age of AI.
> New ways of looking at things create much greater innovation than new ways of doing them.
>
> — Dee Hock
